Volunteer At The Reading Olympics
Friday, May 17, 2019
Olney Hall, LaSalle University
8:15 am – training and light breakfast
12:00 pm - Your responsibilities conclude, but you are more than welcome to stay for the closing ceremony
Olympians “train” by reading assigned books and preparing with their coach and teammates for the Olympics during afterschool hours. At the competition in May, students go head-to-head with other teams from public, parochial, charter, and independent schools, in the style of question and answer, to prove their knowledge of the books. Every team earns points for correct answers. The competition motivates children to read the books independently and discuss them collaboratively. Students are also exposed to the collegiate opportunities within our city, as competitions are held on college campuses.
As a volunteer you will be asked to either be a moderator (asking the questions), a scorekeeper (keeping score), or support staff. Don’t worry, all the questions and answers are provided for you! There will be training at the site on the morning of the event. We guarantee that you’ll have fun as you help to make this rewarding activity a success.
