BoardCorps: Best Practices in Board Governance

Considering nonprofit board membership, or already serve on a board and want to be a better informed board member, this program will demonstrate the path to distinguishing yourself as a committed and fulfilled member.

The Nonprofit Center is collaborating with the La Salle University Alumni Association to present a special 3-hour free program for those public-spirited alumni who want to bring to nonprofit board service the same level of professionalism they bring to their workplaces.

Effective board membership requires more than good intentions and meeting attendance.  This impactful board training is the first step in appreciating the objective and true roles and responsibilities that the job of board member requires.   Attendees will come to understand the full responsibilities of board membership, in both the context of being part of a larger whole, as well as an individual.  Participants will develop a deeper understanding of key elements of board responsibility, such as the law’s performance expectations of nonprofit board members, strategic planning, fundraising, financial management, and the care and feeding of the board.  Attendees will leave knowing that they can now cement their good intentions in best practices, including being able to apply standard tools for board assessment and governance and sample essential policies to their organizations.

From insights into how to choose the right organization for you, finding one that ignites your passion, what questions to ask of leadership and what to look for regarding their finances and major policies, you will be well prepared to identify your expectations for board membership and confidently determine if an organization seems equipped to meet those expectations.  The result – meaningful board participation that matches both your needs and those of the organization.

If you are considering nonprofit board membership, or already serve on a board and want to be a better informed board member, this program will demonstrate the path to distinguishing yourself as a committed and fulfilled member.

This is an interactive session.  Please register by Friday, May 15.

Throughout the year, The Career Committee of the Alumni Association will be presenting events and webinars designed for alumni to help with taking charge of their career path.
